Human practical sense has always led us to create a world full of new possibilities every January 1st, faithful to the good judgment that rather than waiting for the best, it is best to find them yourself. With each new year we give ourselves the wonderful illusion that we can reset the counter to zero, that we can start over.
I join in this hope and this task and, as always, wish for many things, among which I would like to highlight a series of small daily awakenings.
My wish is that by leap year 2024 we will realize that things don't just happen, but for a reason. To give an example that many of us have experienced and will experience during these holidays: I hope that when our fellow citizens feel treated like cattle at an airport, they do not believe that it is for security reasons, but rather because of it Reducing the number of employees whose only desire is to increase airline profits. And I want you to be clear that these companies do this under the protection of policies that do not come from heaven, but rather by voting neoliberal in European elections.
My wish for the coming year is that we interrogate the liars, quarantine the censors, and keep the violent in check, both physically and verbally.
My wish for the year that we wait for with the good hope that things will get better is that we realize that if we fight for it, it will be, and that it will be as simple as pressing “I accept” less often means when they do ask us for something when we get out. Downloads with mobile phones, because the data we transfer is then used to create tools that destroy jobs. There is a lot of human intelligence behind artificial intelligence, but above all a lot of intelligence.
My wish for the coming year is that we interrogate the liars, quarantine the censors, and keep the violent in check, both physically and verbally. They are always very easy to recognize: they preach peace and practice violence. They accuse others of civil war and they are the ones who crave it. I distrust them, their message that everyone is equal. If someone tells me that everyone is equal, not only is they lying, but they will most likely vote twice because my abstention will be added to their vote against me if I am naive enough to give it to them.
In short, I wish that we throw away the idea that we have to wait patiently and resignedly for everything that comes our way like rotten fruit and replace it with the awareness that it is people who shape life. With words instead of words, with conscience instead of sterile complaint. I've seen things you wouldn't believe, they said in that famous movie, but I've always seen them when people took the reins of their lives into their own hands and at least voted. Happy 2024.
