Mon Joliette, now a tradition, takes stock of 2023 in some news. Here is the month of October with the announcement of the demolition of the former Nettoyeur Jolicoeur in Joliette.
The city of Joliette, which acquired the property last March, wants to transform the area into a green space. The local council would like to restore the population's access to the riverbank.
The city of Joliette has been an integral part of Quebec's industrial landscape since 1907 and will also provide artistic support for some Nettoyeur Jolicoeur brands.
The new park will be accessible to pedestrians and cyclists via Rue Saint-Charles-Borromée Nord and to drivers via Rue Papineau from 2024.
Murder of rapper Young Dev in Terrebonne
The Sûreté du Québec has confirmed that the victim of an Oct. 9 murder in Terrebonne is Gordy Jean-Paul, a 34-year-old rapper who goes by the pseudonym “Young Dev.”
Gordy Jean-Paul's body was found in a vehicle parked in a company parking lot at the intersection of Boulevard des Seigneurs and Rue Vaillant.
The initial elements of the investigation confirmed the theory that it was a murder.
Two Toronto suspects were arrested following the rapper's murder. The two suspects, both 18 and 16 years old, appeared at the Laval courthouse on first-degree murder charges.
Two people died in collision with Crabtree
The Sûreté du Québec announced that two victims were claimed in the collision between an SUV and a pickup truck that occurred in Crabtree on October 15.
First, Cynthia Parent, a 49-year-old woman from Joliette, died in the impact. Two days later, a 74-year-old woman who was in the vehicle died from her injuries.
At around 2:30 p.m., emergency services were called to a head-on collision between two vehicles on Chemin St-Jacques. A pickup truck collided with an SUV on a curve.
A little girl was also in the SUV and suffered minor injuries, while the driver of the van, a 23-year-old man from Laval, also suffered injuries but his life is not in danger.
