Margaret II of Denmark (Margrethe Alexandrine Þórhildur Ingrid) was born on April 16, 1940 in Copenhagen: she is the eldest daughter of King Frederick IX. and Queen Ingrid.

In 1967 she married Henri de Laborde de Monpezat: the marriage produced two sons, Crown Prince Friedrich (1968) and Prince Joachim (1969). She has been a widow since February 13, 2018. Her husband died in 1972 and Margaret succeeded him as Queen of Denmark, becoming the first Danish ruler since Margaret I (1375–1412).
