A house destroyed by an explosion, four dead and two seriously injured

An explosion literally destroyed a Michigan home containing six people on Saturday, leaving four people dead and two seriously injured.

Northfield Township police said they were called to Winters Lane Saturday afternoon after a home was destroyed by an explosion on Sunday, the cause of which remained undetermined.

An aerial photo released by the police shows the force of the explosion, which left only the foundations of the house standing. The debris was spread over an area of about 2 acres, or 0.8 hectares, police said.

“It exploded like a bomb. I don't know how to explain it. “It’s the most horrific thing I’ve ever seen,” a neighbor told Local 4.

“I live about a hundred meters from here and when I drove here there was still debris falling from the sky,” the neighbor continued.

There were six people in the house at the time of the explosion. “Three deceased were found in the apartment and three other residents were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. One of these three residents who were transported died from his injuries,” police said.

The police also had to call on the citizens of the region to show decency and calm their curiosity.

“This morning, investigators were working on the scene and there was significant traffic on Winters Lane which hindered the investigation,” police complained, reminding that this thoroughfare is private and normally only allowed to be used by area residents and their guests.
