The US Army announced on Sunday (31) that it had sunk three Houthi rebel boats, killing ten of them, in response to attacks on a cargo ship belonging to a Danish shipping company.

Rebel spokesman Yahya Saree said on the social network

A port source previously reported that “ten rebels were killed and two others injured” in Yemen in the American attack on Houthi ships attempting to intercept a boat at sea off Hodeida.

The injured were rescued and taken to hospital, four others survived.

According to the United States Central Command in the Middle East (Centcom), the Houthis fired on American helicopters, then responded in selfdefense and sank three of the four small ships.

The U.S. Navy responded to a request for assistance from the Maersk Hangzhou, a Singaporeflagged freighter owned and operated by Denmark that said it was attacked for the second time in 24 hours as it sailed through the Red Sea drove.

The ship had already been the target of two rockets fired from Yemeni territory under Houthi control and destroyed by the American army.

Since the conflict between Israel and Hamas began following the Palestinian Islamist movement's deadly attack on Israeli territory on October 7, the Houthis have repeatedly attacked ships in the Red Sea, saying they were doing so in support of the Palestinians in Gaza. .

Those attacks, which occurred on a key trade route, prompted the United States to deploy a multinational naval force earlier this month to protect ships traveling through the Red Sea.

Shortly after the US announcement, the Danish company Maersk said it would suspend the movement of its ships through the Red Sea for 48 hours.
