Jeremy Renner has announced a major step in his career after a horrific accident nearly cost him his life: He's returning to the set of Mayor of Kingstown to film season three.

Renner was involved in a near-fatal accident on January 1, 2023 after saving his nephew from a snowplow. The actor was run over by his own Sno-Cat, which weighs at least 14,330 pounds, sending Renner to the hospital with blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries.

As Renner continues to recover, he spoke with Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper during their CNN New Year's Eve special about his physical therapy and his upcoming album.

“We have a lot to celebrate this year,” Renner said. “I am so blessed to have had so many things to live for. I have a huge family, a 10 year old daughter. I would have disappointed and ruined many people's lives if I had died. There's a lot I have to fight for. For me, recovery is a two-way street. I still work hard every day.”

Renner was also asked if he would return to work on the third season of “Kingstown.”

“It’s been a wonderfully busy year,” he said. “I think I'm ready and I think I'm strong enough. I’m literally going back in a week.”

The Hawkeye actor has been active in keeping his fans updated on his recovery. At the world premiere of his Disney+ series “Rennervations” last April, he made a concerted effort to be healthy enough to walk the red carpet with the help of a cane.

In an interview with ABC News' Diane Sawyer last April, Renner went into detail about how the incident unfolded and explained that he was fine with giving a stunt double more physical tasks on set after his injuries.

“I didn't sleep well last night because I knew I had to talk about it today. I regret nothing. I would do it again,” he said in the interview, adding: “I refuse to let this be a trauma and a negative experience.” This is a man I'm proud of because I wouldn't allow that that happened to my nephew. I change the narrative about becoming a victim, making a mistake, or anything else. I refuse to let that memory haunt me in this way.”
