The Senators also announced the hiring of Dave Poulin as senior vice president of hockey operations and gave Ryan Bowness the additional position of assistant general manager. The two men will support Staios.
“It’s a collaborative approach,” Staios said a few hours before his team’s 5-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres. That wasn’t often the case here before.”
With the arrival of Staios, team president Michael Andlauer wants stability within the organization.
“I understand this team much better now,” said Andlauer. The senators didn't rhyme with the word stability. My New Year’s resolution for 2024 will be to make stability part of our supporters’ vocabulary.”
“Steve has spent the last two months rolling up his sleeves and working diligently to better understand the needs of our team,” the owner added. He knows this team better than anyone.
Staios played 1001 games on the Bettman circuit. According to TSN journalist Claire Hanna, he did not have a formal interview before being selected for the position. He previously held the position on an interim basis.
