Additional security for the New Year's Eve celebration
Security increased for New Year's Eve celebration in Times Square, 2:34 a.m
Around the world, people have gathered to say goodbye to 2023 and welcome 2024. Sydney in Australia and Auckland in New Zealand were among the first major cities to celebrate the New Year with large fireworks displays.
In New York City, the NYPD increased security for the famous ball drop in Times Square following the Hamas attack on Israel, CBS New York reported. Despite extra security measures, the FBI said there was no credible threat to New York City, and New Year's Day arrived to the cheers of tens of thousands of beaming people in Times Square, showered with confetti and hugs and kisses after watching the descent of the New York City City had a colorful, iconic ball.
