New Year's Eve usually conjures up images of colorful party hats and confetti, bursting champagne bottles, and drunken revelers crowding into small spaces like Times Square or a suburban living room. But the celebratory holiday can be more than just that; It can also be enjoyed in the comfort of your home, apartment or dorm.
Thanks to Netflix, New Year's Eve can be celebrated in many ways, thanks to its extensive library of movies, games (you can play Grand Theft Auto 3!) or TV series. It's the latter that we're focusing on, and this list highlights three exceptional TV shows worth watching as we countdown to midnight on December 31st.

The Fall of the House of Usher (2023)
Netflix
I recommend “The Fall of the House of Usher,” but that could really be any of Mike Flanagan’s Netflix series. From The Haunting of Hill House to The Midnight Club, Flanagan has rightly earned a reputation as a modern master of horror, and his latest work, a brilliant remake of an old Edgar Allen Poe, is on par with his best work.
The show chronicles the gradual decline of the Ushers, a rich and powerful family that made millions by producing, distributing and marketing addictive drugs to an unsuspecting audience. In the middle of a high-profile trial, a mysterious stranger shows up and begins taking them down one by one. Who is she? And why does she seem to have supernatural powers? The Fall of the House of Usher answers all of these questions, but does so with a satirical bite and visual flourish that makes it ideal for late-night drinking.
Seinfeld (1990-1998)
Seinfeld: Do you want a piece of me? (clip) | TBS
I'm somewhat biased in recommending “Seinfeld” because, in my opinion, it's the best sitcom of all time. But there's a reason it's a classic – its humor has defined modern comedy as we know it, shaping the way we think, act and talk about all aspects of life, from masturbation You the master of your domain?”), to bad dates (“He took it out.”) to sexuality (“Not that there's anything wrong with that!”).
Plus, who doesn't want to spend New Year's Eve with Jerry, Elaine, George and Kramer? They are terrible people who secretly say and do what we think and wish every day. If you're looking for a few episodes to binge, try “The Library” from Season 3, “The Movie and The Implant” from Season 4, “The Stall and The Dinner Party” from Season 5, “The Kiss Hello ” from Season 6 and “The Wink” from Season 7. As long as you avoid the first season entirely and skip the back half of Season 9, you can't go wrong with any Seinfeld episode.
Body (2023)
Netflix
“Bodies” is worth watching for the premise alone. In 2023, a detective finds a completely naked body on dirty Whitechapel Street, right in the heart of London. What makes this particular murder so unusual is the fact that this body has been discovered before…in 1890…and in 1941…and will be discovered again in 2053. What the hell is going on?
I wouldn't dream of telling you, but suffice to say, “Bodies” unfolds methodically and beautifully, without once making a false step. Even though the film garnered a significant audience when it premiered last October, “Bodies” still isn't being talked about as much as it deserves. It's a gripping thriller and it's the rare mystery series that nails the ending.
