(Montreal) Two pedestrians died early Monday evening in northern Montreal after they were struck by a car whose driver fled.

The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) reports the driver was found in the same area shortly afterwards.
These were two calls to the 911 emergency center that resulted in SPVM police officers driving to the intersection of Boulevard Henri-Bourassa Ouest and Boulevard de l'Acadie at around 1:20 a.m. When they arrived, they found two people unconscious on the ground; They were pronounced dead at the scene.
Thanks to witnesses, agents from the SPVM dog squad were able to locate the car of the suspect, a 23-year-old man who fled west from the scene of the accident, over a distance of approximately one and a half kilometers.
According to police, he stopped his vehicle near the intersection of Boulevard Henri-Bourassa Ouest and Rue Dutrisac in the Saint-Laurent district and then fled on foot. He was captured shortly afterwards and taken to a hospital, where he waited to be interviewed by SPVM investigators later that day.
At the end of the night, two security areas were set up at the scene of the accident and the place where the suspect was arrested.
