  • Elon Musk joined conservatives and announced Green Day after he destroyed Trump's MAGA movement.
  • The band changed a lyric from “American Idiot” on Sunday to instead criticize “the MAGA agenda.”
  • Musk then accused Green Day of being “milquetoast” for “the machine.”

Punk rock band Green Day changed the lyrics to their hit “American Idiot” to denigrate former President Donald Trump during a Sunday performance.

It didn't take long for Elon Musk to express his displeasure that, in his opinion, the band had changed for the worse.

As his band performed one sentence On Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, Billie Joe Armstrong, lead singer of Green Day, changed the line “I'm not a part of a redneck Agenda” and sang “I'm not a part of the MAGA Agenda” instead.

The lyrics, part of a song originally written about the Iraq War, were a direct criticism of former President George Bush.

Since Green Day was now using the song to attack Trump, Musk saw the adapted lyrics as a sign that the band was committed to the establishment.

“Green Day goes from anger against the machine to milquetoast anger for it,” Musk wrote Sunday evening.

His swipe at the band came as a conservative pundit I praised Green Day for the lyric swap and mocked the age of its members. The three members of the band are all 51.

Green Day has a long history of making overt political statements, such as in 2016 when the band coined the slogan “No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA” at the American Music Awards.

Merchandise celebrating Trump's mugshot is even being sold, although the former president did the same by marketing the photo as a symbol of defiance.

Musk has not consistently supported either the Republican or Democratic parties in the past and has previously been critical of Trump's policies.

But the billionaire, who has often advocated for small government, has sided more strongly with conservative politics in recent years as he stepped up criticism of President Joe Biden's administration.
