More than 60 police vehicles converged on a Miami marketplace Monday evening after police tried to shut down a gathering of youths armed with sticks.

The incident, which lit up the street with blue and red flashes, occurred around 10:30 p.m. at Bayside Market Place, an open-air shopping center in downtown Miami.

Police told that city officers were on the scene for crowd control after the youths refused to leave.

They claimed no injuries had been reported and no arrests had been made – yet they needed dozens of police and cars to bring the situation under control.

However, police told CBS Miami that later Monday evening a driver was beaten by a group of 15 young people in what they believe was related to the Market Square brawl.

Police said the youths had now “dispersed” and most of the police presence had been cleared.

Videos from helicopters flying over the scene showed at least 60 police cars responding to the scene with their lights flashing.

A person in the area who witnessed the riot via a livestream told 7News what she saw: a group of girls cornering each other and fighting before it was announced that police were on the scene.

At around 11:30 p.m. local time, Miami police announced to X that the area had been cleared and traffic was moving normally.
