Fire destroys plane at Tokyo airport

A Japan Airlines plane carrying 367 passengers caught fire on Tuesday after colliding with a Japan Coast Guard plane on the runway at Tokyo's Haneda Airport (2).

The airline said all 367 people on board the aircraft were evacuated from the aircraft in a timely manner. Images from Japanese public television NHK show the moment of landing and the burning Japan Airlines plane (see above).

The Coast Guard plane had six people on board and The collision also caused it to catch fire.. The Japanese Coast Guard said the plane's pilot managed to escape, but the other five were still missing as of the last update to this story.

The plane was on the runway to take off towards the Niigata military base on the country's west coast to bring aid to cities hit by the earthquake that hit the region on Monday (1), leaving 48 dead .
