Marc-André Grenon

Guylaine Potvin, a 19-year-old student from Jonquière in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, was sexually assaulted in her apartment in April 2000 and then murdered. A murder that remained unsolved for two decades. The trial of Marc-André Grenon, who is accused of first-degree murder, is scheduled to begin in front of a jury in mid-January. A highly anticipated trial that will help lift the veil on the police's new investigative techniques.

Denis Leblanc

The double murder of sisters Diane Leblanc and Sylvie Leblanc in October 2020 was almost forgotten during the pandemic. However, this bloody family affair will return to the headlines in January with the opening of the jury trial of Denis Leblanc, accused of murdering his two sisters. He is also charged with three counts of attempted murder during a shootout with police on the streets of Montreal.

Pierre Ny St Amand

The case had a profound impact on Quebec in 2023. The bus driver accused of killing two toddlers and injuring several children in a collision at a daycare center in Laval will face an inquest at the Laval courthouse next March. Ten witnesses are heard. For the first time, we can learn more about the circumstances of the attack and the defendant's psychological state at the time of the crime.

Peter Nygard

The trial of fashion mogul Peter Nygard at the Montreal courthouse next June is likely to have nationwide repercussions. The 82-year-old fallen billionaire is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in Montreal between 1997 and 1998. Very little is known about the facts alleged in this case. At the end of a highly publicized trial in Toronto last fall, Peter Nygard was found guilty of sexually abusing several women.

Ali Ngarukiye

After a three-month trial in 2023 for the attempted murder of a police officer in which a jury found him guilty, Ali Ngarukiye is expected to go on trial in 2024 for the murder of a fellow inmate. The young man is accused of the murder of André Lapierre in 2023 in a prison cell. Ali Ngarukiye's mental health could be at the heart of the trial.

Brothers Rayan* and Karim*

The two western Montreal brothers accused of kidnapping their 16-year-old sister as part of an AMBER alert in 2021 will face final sentencing in May 2024. The two men accused their sister of wearing tight clothing and smoking. They go by the nicknames Rayan and Karim to protect the identity of their underage sister. However, the evidence is likely to be sensitive for the Crown as the young complainant is now defending her brothers.
