Critics may have butchered it, but Rebel Moon Part One: A Child of Fire was easily the most-watched title among British Netflix subscribers over the Christmas period.

According to nights.tv's official UK streaming ratings, Zack Snyder's space opera was watched by 16.5 million people in the seven days following its launch on December 21st.

The performance, which includes viewing on mobile devices, will almost certainly make Rebel Moon one of the best-performing titles on Netflix in the UK last year.

The UK figure is supported by Netflix's global data, which shows Snyder's sci-fi epic had almost 24 million views in its first four days.

Back in the UK, Rebel Moon had more than 10 million viewers, ahead of Ricky Gervais' stand-up special Armageddon, which fared far from bad.

The comedy show was watched by 6 million Brits in the week following its premiere on December 25, according to Overnights.tv, which sources its data from Barb, the UK's official ratings research body.

Critics didn't consider “Armageddon” to be one of Gervais' best stand-up works, but it remains a crowd favorite for Netflix.

The other film that had a strong performance on Netflix in December was Leave the World Behind. The dystopian thriller starring Julia Roberts was streamed by almost 9 million Brits in its first seven days.
