Amber Alert: 1-year-old child missing in Lachine sector

On Tuesday afternoon, Montreal police issued an Amber Alert to find a one-year-old child who was allegedly abducted from his mother in the Lachine neighborhood.

Authorities are asking the public for help in finding Zeynab Cherrabi El Alaoui. Police are also looking for the child's mother, 18-year-old Miryanna Monterrosa-Laberte.

The 1-year-old girl is 60cm tall and is wearing a pale pink romper with a pink and white unicorn on it. The suspect is 1.60 m tall and weighs 54 kg. She has a scar on her left upper lip and left forehead.

Anyone with information can contact 911.

At his grandparents' house

The child was with his grandparents in the accommodation on the Louis Basile Pigeon Terrace until yesterday evening.

“This morning at 9:25 a.m. the grandparents are picking up the child. When they enter the room, they see that the child is not there and that there is an open window at the back,” explained Jean-Pierre Brabant, spokesman for the Montreal Metropolitan Police (SPVM).

Police then attempted to contact Zeynab Cherrabi El Alaoui's parents, who no longer have custody of her.

“With the information we received, we were able to locate the father in the Laval area. He wasn't with the child. Everything indicates that it was the mother who kidnapped the child, so we are looking for the child and his mother,” said Mr. Brabant.

The SPVM says it checked with hospitals, Urgences-Santé and the Montreal airport to ensure that mother and child had not left the country.

“We were at the end of our capabilities and raised the Amber Alert at around 1.30pm,” Mr Brabant added.

Careful research

The SPVM also constructed a perimeter fence on the Louis Basile Pigeon Terrace.

That afternoon, police combed the area around the house where the kidnapping allegedly took place, leaving nothing to chance.

The Journal noted that the inside of the trash cans were examined, as well as every nook and cranny of the backyards of neighboring homes.
