Kyler Murray is wearing a Crosby jersey and “Sid” thinks he knows why

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray surprised many when he wore a Pittsburgh Penguins jersey with the name Sidney Crosby on it during Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Murray, who is originally from Texas and played at Oklahoma during his college career, has no a priori connection to the city of Pittsburgh, the Penguins or Crosby. Except that “Sid the Kid” is one of the most hated athletes in Philadelphia and his jersey can therefore serve as a provocation.

“I have a little idea why, but it would be nice to know the story behind it,” Crosby, who has 125 points in 85 career games against the Flyers, said Tuesday, according to the Penguins' website.

Since he had so much success against Philadelphia, number 87 was a logical choice for Murray. It also brought him luck as his Cardinals (4-12) pulled off an upset by defeating the Eagles (11-5) 35-31. The quarterback threw three touchdown passes.

The first overall pick in the 2019 draft appears to suit Pennsylvania as he also picked up a win against the Pittsburgh Steelers in early December.
