“We don’t want fascists,” protested the conductor Beatrice Venezi at the New Year’s Concert in Nice The Video

“The conductor” of the orchestra Beatrice Venezi (as she likes to be called) was once again challenged, this time for the New Year's Concert in Nice, where she was called upon to conduct the symphony orchestra. Protests had begun since the announcement last summer, and inevitably the fateful date caused some unrest. The director, who was close to the Fratelli d'Italia, was actually targeted by four spectators who shouted from the stands: “We don't want fascists.” The same writing was also visible on a banner that was unrolled a few moments later. The audience's reactions to the action were heterogeneous: partly criticism, but also partly applause. Venezi, for his part, did not react: after looking at the opponents, he began to direct the concert. Around fifty people had already demonstrated against the event in the last few days. Venezi, on the other hand, was sought by the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, who, as Repubblica recalls, is a member of Horizons (a center-right party founded by former Prime Minister Édouard Philippe and part of the Macronist majority). He not only entrusted her with the big final concert, but also with the direction of the Orchester philarmonique de Nice in the dance Giselle by Adolphe Adam from December 21st to 29th.
