Michelle Keegan reveals the lines she refused to say in 'Fool Me Once' to avoid offending her 'British icon' co-star

Michelle Keegan has revealed the lines she didn't want to say in 'Fool Me Once' so as not to offend her 'British Icon' co-star Joanna Lumley.

Michelle, 36, and Joanna, 77, appeared on The One Show on Tuesday to talk about their new Netflix series, based on Harlan Coben's novel of the same name.

The two discussed how Michelle's character, Maya Stern, has to swear and use strong language towards her mother-in-law, Joanna, who plays Judith Burkett.

The former Coronation Street actress described the Absolutely Fabulous star as a “British icon” and insisted: “Honestly, when I read the script I thought, 'Oh no, oh no.'” We have a bit laughed, right, when we were rehearsing?

“I don't think I said that when we were in rehearsals, I was just like, 'I can't, I can't.'”

Joanna admitted that it can be difficult when someone calls you names when you're not used to it.

She said: “If it's not used very often, swear words come out… they hit you off the screen, that's what happens.”

In the much-talked-about series, Michelle plays the seemingly widowed Maya, but after setting up a nanny camera to keep an eye on her young daughter, she sees her dead husband Joe – played by Richard Armitage – on camera.

This revelation plunges Maya into a world of conspiracy as she wonders what really happened to her partner and what role his family, and especially his mother (Joanna as Judith), played in the saga.

Michelle made sure to gush about Joanna again on Instagram following her One Show appearance.

She wrote alongside a picture: “Me and my mother in law on the screen. (We really love each other) What a day!!!!”

“So overwhelmed by all your amazing messages about Fool Me Once.” “Thank you, thank you xxx,” the Our Girl star added.

Michelle's husband Mark, who she married in 2015, was among the many fans who took to social media to rave about the actress' performance on her new show.
