Escalation is the nature of war. When weapons push politics into the background, only the spiral of violence reigns. We are seeing it these days between Ukraine and Russia. It is part of the logic of war that Kiev responds to attacks on its citizens on its territory with attacks on Russian territory, in which innocent Russian civilians also die. And that Russia hits back and increases the bombing.
That's how it works between Hamas and Israel. Maybe even more virulent. As the war pushes into Russia and ramps up the nuclear threat, the war in Gaza moves full speed toward the Lebanese border with Hezbollah's missiles and drones; in the West Bank due to the provocations of extremist settlers: in Lebanon with the selective assassination of Hamas number two, Saleh al Aruri; on the coasts of Yemen due to the Houthi rebels' crackdown on maritime traffic. And this Wednesday in Iran, with the double bomb attack that claimed the lives of more than 90 people in the Iranian cemetery of Kerman, where the precise anniversary of the selective assassination of Qasem Soleimani, commander-in-chief of the Guardians of Iran was commemorated revolution. .

Washington is focused on one strategic goal in both wars: preventing them from spilling over, endangering world peace and even trapping its troops in a hornet's nest again, like so many others in the last century. All major wars began as local disputes that then escalated and spread.
To achieve this, the United States is doing one thing and the opposite. Carefully evaluate military aid to Ukraine and help Israel without borders. It therefore seeks an impossible and difficult to explain balance that would allow its allies to advance moderately without triggering open international war.
Differences over the future are enormous with regard to Israel and Palestine, where the responsibility lies with Washington. Joe Biden warmly welcomes Netanyahu but is fed up with his extremist government and his poor annexationist ideas about Gaza and the West Bank. With so much military aid and so obvious diplomatic support, he wants to lead Israel to the only solution that preserves democracy and the Jewish character of the state, namely the recognition of the Palestinian state, the very thing his Israeli ally and protégé wanted to destroy once and for all. With Israel's victory, Biden aims to defeat Netanyahu.
At the moment the reaction is worrying: the war in Gaza shows no sign of letting up and there are signs on all sides that it is spiraling out of control.
It would be in Washington's interest if regional actors organized the way out of war and peace. The future of Ukraine is very clear: in the Atlantic and European framework. Brussels' responsibility in the war in Ukraine, which is ultimately a candidate for EU membership, will increase. And minors, however, in Gaza. Not only because of the different positions of the Europeans, who voted in the United Nations divided between yes, no and abstention on the ceasefire, but also because of the doubts about the Atlantic Alliance with a White House occupied by Trump.
Therefore, it is difficult to participate in the naval operation off the coast of Yemen without the cover of NATO or the EU, in an operation designed solely to bilaterally support the actions of the United States.
