Follow Web's live coverage following the publication of explosive US court documents detailing the links of late pedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Six important revelations in unsealed documents
Many of you will wake up to the news that documents linking Jeffrey Epstein's associates have been released.
If you're just joining us, here's what happened overnight:
- Prince Andrew has been named, with Epstein victim Johanna Sjoberg accusing the duke of touching her breast. The Duke is also accused of taking part in an “underage orgy” on Epstein’s island.
- Former US President Bill Clinton was mentioned under oath in Johanna Sjoberg's interview. She says Epstein told her Clinton “liked her young, in terms of girls.”
- Epstein denied that physicist Stephen Hawking took part in an “orgy of minors” on his island.
- Donald Trump also appears in the court filing, but Sjoberg claims she never gave him a massage and that he was never seen on any of Epstein's properties.
- Michael Jackson visited Epstein at his Palm Beach home, but Sjoberg did not massage the late King of Pop.
- Magician David Copperfield had dinner with Epstein and asked Sjoberg if she knew that girls were paid to find other girls.
Jimmy Kimmel is NOT named in the bombshell Epstein court documents
Why did two J. Does remain anonymous?
- Judge Loretta Preska ordered that most of the 187 entries be made under the pseudonym “J. Doe' is scheduled to be unsealed after January 1st
- The anonymity of Doe 107 and Doe 110 was extended by the courts yesterday
- Doe 107 claims she would be in danger if she was named in her “culturally conservative country.”
- She has until Jan. 22 to submit information supporting her claim
- The investigation into Doe 110 is currently being reviewed by the court
Jeffrey Epstein's full list of names has been revealed
The identities of well-known figures who were associates, friends or victims of Jeffrey Epstein – or who had no connection to him at all – have been revealed in court documents.
Following an order from a US judge last month, the names of more than 170 people are now to be published. The first tranche of documents was released yesterday evening.
However, mentioning a name does not necessarily mean that they have been accused of wrongdoing. Some names are only mentioned by witnesses who have denied meeting them.
Click below for a look to some of the first names revealed in the newspapers:
Epstein Papers are NOT a “client list”
- Social media users had speculated that the documents were a list of rich and powerful men who were Epstein's “clients” or “co-conspirators” – but no such list existed
- The first 40 documents of the court-ordered release consisted largely of already public material about the Epstein scandal revealed through newspaper articles, television documentaries, interviews, legal cases and books
- The documents released yesterday included transcripts of interviews with some of Epstein's victims and old police reports
- Documents also contained evidence that the pedophile surrounded himself with famous and powerful figures, including some who were also accused of misconduct
- The unsealed files included mentions of Bill Clinton, Prince Andrew, Michael Jackson and others
Johanna Sjoberg, one of Jeffrey Epstein's alleged victims, testified that American magician David Copperfield asked whether she was aware that Epstein's “girls” were encouraged to procure other girls for him.
Newly released court documents show that during her testimony, Sjoberg said the famous magician had just had dinner at Epstein's house when he asked her if she knew other girls were being paid to bring in new girls.
“Johanna said Copperfield “asked me if I knew girls were paid to find other girls.”
The Chron has contacted Copperfield's representative for comment.
Bill Clinton knew nothing about Epstein's “horrible crimes,” says spokesman
Former US President Bill Clinton has again denied knowledge of Epstein's sex trafficking ring.
Clnton's spokesman issued a statement in 2019 confirming that he had flown on Epstein's plane, but said the president knew “nothing about the horrific crimes to which Jeffrey Epstein pleaded guilty several years ago in Florida, or about the which he was recently accused of in New York.” .
The president's camp reiterated that denial in a statement to CNN yesterday, adding that it has been “nearly 20 years since President Clinton last had contact with Epstein.”
Clinton has not been accused of any wrongdoing related to the financier.
Ghislaine Maxwell 'maintains her innocence' as court documents are unsealed
Ghislaine Maxwell's lawyers issued a statement Wednesday as the first unsealed documents were released.
“She has consistently and vehemently maintained her innocence,” her lawyers told CNN Business.
Will more names be released?
- The judge delayed the unsealing of two of the Jane Dos until Jan. 22
- A delay comes after the judge granted a “Jane Doe” a 30-day extension to consider her confidentiality request
- The judge also ordered some names to be redacted to protect the anonymity of minors who were victims of sex crimes
Chron royal editor Rebecca English says: “More embarrassment for Prince Andrew”
Jimmy Kimmel was not named in the Epstein documents
Before the documents were released, there was a lot of misinformation about what they contained.
Social media users falsely claimed that late-night host Jimmy Kimmel's name could appear in the documents, spurred by a blast New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers made Tuesday on ESPN's “The Pat McAfee Show” made.
Kimmel said in a response to X that he had never met Epstein and that Rodgers' “reckless words put my family in danger.” He threatened to sue the four-time NFL MVP after he branded him an “asshole.”
Kimmel's longstanding feud with his NFL nemesis goes way back to the quarterback's controversial comments on The Pat McAfee Show this week.
Recently released court documents about pedophile Jeffrey Epstein show he enjoyed bragging about phone conversations with some of Hollywood's biggest stars.
Johanna Sjoberg, who accuses Epstein and his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell of abusing her in the late 1990s, said the sex criminal once called Oscar-winning Australian actress Cate Blanchett by name during a massage.
Ms. Sjoberg made the claim while discussing her interactions with Epstein with attorney Laura A. Menninger in Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre's lawsuit against Maxwell.
“I saw a press report saying you had met Cate Blanchett…?” Ms. Menninger, appearing for Maxwell, asked Ms. Sjoberg.
“I haven’t met her, no,” Ms. Sjoberg replied.
Today it was revealed that one of Epstein's alleged sex slaves, known only as Jane Doe 3, has claimed she was told to have sexual intercourse with Prince Andrew during an orgy.
A 2014 court filing alleges that she “was forced into sexual relations with this prince as a minor in three different geographical locations.”
The newly unsealed documents claim that Epstein instructed Jane Doe 3 to “give the prince whatever he asked for.” Jane Doe 3 claims that Ghislaine Maxwell “facilitated Prince Andrew's acts of sexual abuse by acting as a 'madame' to Epstein.”
She claims this happened “in London (at Ghislaine Maxwell's apartment), in New York, and on Epstein's private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands (in an orgy with numerous other underage girls).”
Jeffrey Epstein had explosive information that could have “derailed” the 2016 election, his brother claims
Mark Epstein, a New York-based real estate developer who is 18 months younger than Jeffrey, said his brother never revealed details.
Mark, 69, said: “Here's a direct quote: 'If I said what I know about both candidates, they would have to cancel the election.' That's what Jeffrey told me in 2016.”
Hillary Clinton, the Democratic nominee in the 2016 race, was not known to have spent time with Jeffrey Epstein, but her husband had been a friend since at least 1993.
The pedophile financier made at least 17 visits to the White House, presidential logs show, and Bill Clinton also flew on Epstein's private jet and took trips to Europe, Asia and Africa in 2002 and 2003.
Professor Stephen Hawking was also named in the newly released court documents.
In an email from Epstein to Maxwell dated January 12, 2015, the pedophile can be seen asking his former girlfriend to try to find friends or family members of Virginia Giuffre who can help prove her allegations are untrue are.
Epstein wrote: “You may offer a reward to any friend, acquaintance and family member of Virginia who will come forward and help prove your allegations are false.”
“The strongest thing about the Clinton dinner and the new version in the Virgin Islands is that Stephen Hawking took part in an underage orgy.”
Professor Hawking visited Epstein's infamous island in 2006 during a conference.
It's unclear why he was on the island – or why Epstein wanted to refute the orgy allegation, although the twisted financier was known to invite celebrities he admitted to enjoy his hospitality.
Hawking, who died in 2018 at the age of 76, is pictured attending a barbecue and taking a submarine tour of the seabed off the island, The Telegraph reported.
The conference was reportedly financed by Epstein on the neighboring island of St. Thomas.

According to Johanna Sjoberg, the new Epstein documents claim that the former US president “likes her young”.
Ms. Sjoberg said she was recruited to work as a massage therapist on a college campus at age 20 without receiving any training from Ghislaine Maxwell.
She said she was forced to perform sexual acts on Epstein.
Ms. Sjoberg said Epstein told her: “Clinton likes them young, referring to girls.”
Clinton has long tried to downplay his connection to Epstein, but admitted he traveled on his private plane.
On Wednesday, a spokesman for Clinton told CNN he was unaware of Epstein's “horrific crimes” during their friendship, adding that “nearly 20 years have passed since Clinton last had contact with Epstein.”

What do the documents say about Prince Andrew?
Epstein accuser Johanna Sjoberg said Prince Andrew placed his hand on her breast to pose for a photo with financier Virginia Giuffre and Ghislaine Maxwell.
In her testimony, she described being called to Epstein's New York mansion in March 2001, when she was 21, where she discovered that “Prince Andrew was there and a few other girls my age,” including Giuffre.
“Andrew was very charming,” Ms. Sjoberg said. “She (Maxwell) came over with a gift for him – a latex doll of him from Spitting Image.”
Ms Sjoberg added that Andrew found the doll “weird because it was him”.
She said in an affidavit: “I just remember someone suggesting a photo and telling us to lie down on the couch.” And so Virginia (Roberts) and Andrew sat on the couch and laid them on her doll on your lap.
“And so, I think of my own accord, I sat on Andrew's lap, and they took the doll's hand and put it on Virginia's chest, and so Andrew put his on mine.”
It was all done “in jest” and “everyone laughed,” Ms. Sjoberg said. “Ghislaine… had a very dirty sense of humor.”
Buckingham Palace has previously denied the allegations.
Because of his connection to Epstein, Andrew was stripped of most of his royal titles.
Why were the documents released?
The case was settled in 2017, but Giuffre – and many others – have long demanded that the names be made public.
Giuffre is one of dozens of women who have sued Epstein, alleging he abused them at his homes in Florida, New York, the U.S. Virgin Islands and New Mexico.
She said the summer she turned 17, she was headhunted from a job as a spa attendant at Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago club to become a “masseuse” for Epstein – a job that involved sexual acts took place.
U.S. District Judge Loretta A. Preska, who evaluated the documents to decide what should be unsealed, said in her December order that she was ordering the records released because much of the information they contained was already public.
