Apple Original Films today announced that the Martin Scorsese-directed and Golden Globe Award-nominated film “Killers of the Flower Moon” will stream worldwide on Apple TV+ starting Friday, January 12th.
This comes after the film, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, grossed $156 million at the global box office, with Lily Gladstone breaking out. Apple's rollout of the film, starting with a premiere at Cannes and then a full worldwide theatrical release by Paramount, sets an intriguing template for future big-budget streamer films. It lands on the streaming service right during awards season and is considered a frontrunner.
Killers of the Flower Moon was named Best Film of the Year by the National Board of Review, received 12 Critics Choice Award nominations and 7 Golden Globe Award nominations, and was included in the American Film Institute's list of motion pictures of the year. The film also landed on the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Oscar shortlists for Best Make-up and Hair, Best Sound, Best Original Score and Best Original Song and was named by The New York No. 1 Best Film of 2023 by the Times and The New Yorker, in addition to being recognized by over 20 critics groups worldwide, including Best Film honors by the New York Film Critics Circle. Tonight, “Killers of the Flower Moon” will receive the Vanguard Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Film Awards Gala.
“Killers of the Flower Moon,” an adaptation of the David Grann book by Eric Roth and Scorsese, is set in 1920s Oklahoma and depicts the serial murder of members of the oil-rich Osage Nation, a series of brutal crimes later known as “The Reign.” “Terror became known.
