Difficult holidays for ski centers in Estrie

The holiday season is a crucial time for ski mountains. However, this year the weather conditions have not been particularly favorable for skiers, who are still hoping to use their last days of vacation to hit the slopes.

In Mont Sutton, 10 of 60 trails are accessible. The organization acknowledges that the holiday season has been more difficult, but sees the glass as half full.

“Winter is still young, we tell ourselves that we still have time to recover and see good conditions and, above all, lots of people,” said Mont Sutton CEO Jean-Michel Ryan. The completely snow-covered summit gives hope to the mountain, which has high expectations for the rest of the winter.

On the side of Mount Owl's Head we see the same thing. Skiers who want to spend time skiing ensure that the mountain is well skied at the beginning of the year.

“We are really satisfied that our investments in our snowmaking systems have paid off (…) This allows us to offer skiers excellent conditions,” explained Pierre Bourdages, CEO of Destination Owl's Head.

When it comes to mountain experiences in Bromont, the team found that the climate played a big role in motivating skiers to enjoy the winter. Due to the lack of snow around the ski center, the experience lacked a wintry atmosphere, according to Bromont montagne d'experiences president Charles Désourdy. “The atmosphere was not ideal for skiers (…) We are happy that there is snow and hope that there will be more snow for the rest of the season,” he added.

Ski centers hope traffic continues to be good and encourage people to travel to the region's mountains to enjoy the snow.
