UPPER WEST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) — At least 14 people, mostly passengers, suffered minor injuries after a partial train derailment on the Upper West Side Thursday afternoon.
It appears that the first car of a No. 1 train came into contact with a work train north of the 96th Street station around 3 p.m
As a result, the first car of the passenger train derailed.
Officials described the incident as a slow, minor derailment that occurred as the subway train was leaving the station.
The conductor of that train was treated for a minor injury.
Passengers were escorted off the train to the 96th St station
The incident causes delays on lines 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 as trains 4/5 share tracks with the rerouted trains.
Power to lines 1, 2 and 3 north of 72nd Street will be shut off.
Additionally, train service will be suspended in both directions between South Ferry and 137 St-City College.
Passengers should take A/B/C/D/R/W trains or local buses.
