In Panama there is a ban on voting

The highest body that organizes and oversees the consultation determined that the rule applies to all candidates for elected office and the parties.

The measure, they specified, establishes the ban on the implementation of activities and the promotion of state programs.

The TE stated that the political campaign will officially begin from February 3, 2024 with proselytizing activities for the election on May 5 of the same year for a period of 90 days.

The prohibitions of the election ban include the dissemination of election propaganda paid for or donated to or against citizens or parties, as well as caravans and rallies.

You may also not distribute promotional items or sponsor events that use the party's name and advertising in traditional and digital media.

Article 257 of the Electoral Law states that election campaigning is a series of paid activities carried out by political parties, pre-candidates and candidates during a certain period of time to attract the support of voters.

While Article 259 stipulates that traditional communication media are means of disseminating election propaganda: open and closed television channels via satellite or microwave, radio stations, the print press and the cinema.

This also includes digital media: the digital version of traditional media, the Internet and social networks, account or call centers via landlines or mobile phones, huge digital profile centers.

Other statements with similar restrictions must be complied with through stationary or mobile election propaganda, through promotional items, social media accounts and content sponsored or paid for directly or indirectly by candidates, preliminary candidates or the various marquees.

For his part, the President of the Electoral Court of Panama, Alfredo Juncá, called on the population to denounce “the use of state resources to influence the elections” in which eight candidates will compete for the presidency of the Republic for the period 2024 to 2024. 2029.

On May 5, Panamanians will vote in elections to decide the country's new president and vice president, 20 members of the Central American Parliament and 71 members of the National Assembly.

The vote also elects 81 mayors, 701 municipal representatives and 11 city councilors, all with their respective deputies, for the period from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2029.
