“It was a death, unfortunately João is included in the statistics of about 3% of patients who die during heart operations,” he said.
The expert also explains that Carreiro's death has no specific cause, but rather a number of factors. He had a heart condition called mitral valve prolapse (MVP).
“He had a prolapse, a structural disease of the heart. His heart was no longer normal, the organ was already unusually dilated,” he adds.
