The unveiling of the 32 representatives, one per team, for the National Hockey League (NHL) All-Star Game caused a stir among New York Rangers fans.
Many on social media wondered why striker Artemi Panarin wasn't selected. Rather, goalkeeper Igor Shesterkin will be the color bearer for the “Blueshirts”.
The 32-year-old Russian striker is his team's best scorer with 53 points (24-29) in 37 games so far.
After Thursday's game against the Chicago Blackhawks, Panarin explained that he would not be able to attend the All-Star Game because his wife was pregnant with their second child and due to give birth soon.
The NHL star also urged fans to vote for another Rangers representative. Remember that a public vote will begin soon to select the final 12 players (eight runners, four goalkeepers) who will be invited to the event.
The 2024 NHL All-Star Game will be presented the weekend of February 1-3 at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.
