Eagles receiver DeVonta Smith has officially been ruled out for Sunday's regular-season finale in North Jersey.
This will be the first missed game of Smith's three-year NFL career.
Smith (ankle) and Darius Slay (knee) are both out for Sunday. Here is the full injury report:
Out of: DeVonta Smith (ankle), Darius Slay (knee)
Questionable: D'Andre Swift (illness)
In his three years in the league, Smith has played 54 of a possible 54 games in the regular season and playoffs. But he missed practice the entire week before the regular-season finale.
Smith, 25, twisted his ankle late in the New Year's Eve loss to the Cardinals. The good news is that the Eagles avoided a serious injury. As he strolled through the locker room Wednesday, Smith had already removed his walking boots and crutches that he had after the game. This makes it seem like Smith will be good for the playoffs.
Even if Smith were physically able to play against the Giants, MetLife Stadium has a notoriously poor playing surface, inclement weather is forecast and it seems unlikely that the Eagles can improve their standing in the NFC. It would take a Cowboys win and a loss for the Commanders to win the division. So it's smart to sit him.
Slay also missed practice on Friday. He was a spectator when the Eagles used their indoor practice facility. It makes sense to keep Slay out until the playoffs, especially given the field conditions at MetLife.
Slay has missed the last three games after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his knee. The Eagles will definitely need him in the playoffs the following week, whether they are at home as a No. 2 seed or a No. 5 seed.
While Smith and Slay did not practice Friday, the rest of the players listed on the injury report did practice.
These include Jordan Davis (ankle), Zach Cunningham (knee), Avonte Maddox (elbow) and Haason Reddick (illness).
Davis was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, while the other three were full participants. Davis was packed on Friday. All of these players have no game status and are expected to play.
