At least 24 people were slightly injured in a collision between two subway trains and the derailment of one of the trains in New York on Thursday, according to emergency services cordoning off one of Manhattan's busiest boroughs.
Three lines of the extensive network of one of the oldest subways in the world were shut down and the northwest of the main island of the megacity, the Upper West Side district of Manhattan, was completely cordoned off by fire departments, police and ambulance services.

No one was seriously injured in this collision between a train carrying passengers and another empty train stopped on a track, New York City Fire Department Emergency Medical Services Officer Ian Swords and Emergency Services Commander Mike Meyers told reporters at the scene.
The New York City subway is also extremely dilapidated, but accidents and incidents are very rare and its ridership is rising again after being abandoned due to the pandemic and an increase in crime between 2020 and 2022.
