We're going to Bayonne to see the fire from across Newark Bay. Bayonne OEM informed residents about an hour ago that smoke was blowing over the downtown area and that they should no longer stay in the direct smoke zone. @News12NJ pic.twitter.com/Pw8QHNx5mg

Due to its proximity to the airport, authorities are closely monitoring the fire and smoke.
Air traffic will not be affected by the smoke for the time being.
Huge clouds of black smoke covered the sky for miles, as far away as Manhattan Island and the borough of Staten Island.
