Not even President Joe Biden was informed by the Pentagon about the hospitalization of US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. Politico reveals this, citing two US leaders.
According to the website, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and other senior White House officials did not learn of Austin's hospitalization until three days later and immediately notified the commander in chief. The sources said it was highly unlikely that Austin broke the news to Biden privately before informing Sullivan. “If Sullivan didn’t know, the president couldn’t know either,” one of them said. “Who but Sullivan would have told him about Austin’s condition? And if someone had told the president, Sullivan would have been his first call,” he added.
