Falcons evaluate coach Arthur Smith's status after season; Broncos expected to retain GM George Paton – NFL.com

Broncos are expected to retain GM

The Broncos enter the offseason with a lot of questions and a variety of relevant conversations. However, sources say there should be no question about general manager George Paton's status.

According to sources, Paton is considered safe within the organization. Based on his overall scoring talents and a strong working relationship with Sean Payton since the head coach's arrival last offseason, all signs point to Paton staying.

Things didn't go perfectly for the respected Paton, who hired Nathaniel Hackett in 2022 and traded for quarterback Russell Wilson. Hackett was fired after less than a full season and Wilson appears to be next. But those moves came before Payton and Broncos owner and CEO Greg Penner arrived. Since the trio have been together, the arrow has been pointing up: The Broncos have won seven of their last 10 games and are poised for their first winning season since 2016 if they can win Sunday's finale against the Las Vegas Raiders.

While Penner makes the final decision and calls the shots, Payton's voice is also strong. There will certainly be many conversations aimed at improving things for the future. But the alliterative triumvirate of Payton, Paton and Penner seems to stick together.
