Donald Trump could win more African-American votes in the next presidential election than any other Republican presidential candidate in history. According to national and state polls reviewed by Bloomberg, the Grand Old Party's front-runner commands between 14 and 30 percent of the black vote at the start of the election year. That number far exceeds the 8% of African-American votes the tycoon won in the 2020 presidential election, according to the Pew Research Center, and more than any other Republican candidate before him, including Richard Nixon.
Joe Biden, on the other hand, is losing ground in this voter segment after winning 92% four years ago when the African American vote helped him win swing states like Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin. His support fell 7 percentage points to 61% among voters in seven swing states from October to December 2023, according to a Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll. During the same period, Trump remained stable at around 25%.
