“We saved democracy. But democracy is never finished; it has to be built and maintained every day. Democracy is imperfect because we are human and therefore imperfect.”

But we all have a duty to join forces to make it better. There will be no full democracy as long as inequalities exist, whether in income, race, gender, sexual orientation, access to health care, education and other public services.

“Perfecting democracy means recognizing that democracy is not democracy for a few,” the president said at an event in the Black Room of Parliament in defense of democracy and the rule of law, attended by lawmakers, governors and Cabinet officials. among others.

“We all have a duty to defend democracy,” said Lula, recognizing that economic disparities must be improved to build a fair country with fewer inequalities.

No one should confuse freedom with the aim of attacking democracy, he assured.

“We reaffirm Brazilian democracy with political measures after the coup attempt,” emphasized the president, so that such acts do not happen again.

“All those who financed, planned and carried out the coup attempt must be punished in an exemplary manner. There is no forgiveness for those who attack democracy, their country and their own people. Forgiveness would sound like impunity. And impunity, like a safe passage for new terrorist attacks,” he said.
