It's just not a red carpet without Melissa Rivers.

The “Fashion Police” alum and daughter of late icon Joan Rivers knows what works (and what doesn't) in a step-and-repeat, and tells Page Six Style she was impressed by the fashion show at the 2024 Golden Globes – for some at least a degree.

“I liked it. I’m not sure it was great,” Rivers says of Sunday night’s carpet.

“I felt like it was everywhere, that there were so many trends that it was a little difficult to navigate,” she adds.

“I mean, could we have seen more black velvet? We saw a lot of transparency. We saw a lot of red. We saw a lot of big jewelry. [And] Oh my god, lots of boobs.”

Below, Rivers breaks down the best and worst of the Golden Globes red carpet.

Taylor Swift

“Taylor Swift looked phenomenal. I loved [seeing it] in this sea of black and all these muted colors – green! The color was spectacular, the dress was spectacular… I just wish the top had fitted a little better.”

Helen Mirren

Wearing Dolce & Gabbana FilmMagic

“We had [all these] Pops of color that I loved. Helen Mirren was just… I mean, she came in and it was over. She knows how to work a dress. She was just amazing.”

“I always feel like she's coming up and saying, 'Oh, kids, you all look so nice.' That's what a movie star does. So much of it [it is] how she behaves and what attitude she has.

“She can do it and she knows what works for her. Everything about her is beautifully cut, and with the long earrings and the perfect hair and makeup… you know, she just always brings it.”

“I thought the front was so elegant and the back – I thought it was spectacular.” That was one of those that I looked at and thought, “Oh my God, I would love to wear that.”

“It was truly an evening where, in my opinion, elegance prevailed; No one looked like their hair came from the beach, all very simple makeup… quiet luxury.”

Hunter Shepherd

“I loved it when it blew and billowed… I wasn't sure I even liked it when it dragged. But there was something ethereal about it without being transparent… [and] I’ve seen too many of too many people!”

Rosamund Pike

Wearing Dior Haute Couture FilmMagic

“I was confused about Rosamund Pike. This headdress really blew me away. I know she had a skiing accident, but she's already healed! [And] I didn't like the dress. Maybe I would have liked it better if she hadn't been in the chunky platform shoes. I'm not a fan of long tea for a black tie.

“I just felt like there was too much going on, and I felt like people who were too over the top didn't work for me.”

Emma Stone

Wear Louis Vuitton FilmMagic

“I'm a huge Emma Stone fan but I thought the lace wasn't doing her any favours. She has a very flat chest, which almost emphasizes it. But the fabric, hair and makeup were beautiful.

“That wasn't it [about] Tailoring…it was easy [that] I don’t think many people have made good choices that would flatter their body type.”

Julia Garner

I'm wearing Gucci FilmMagic

“I don't like clothes that make me nervous; You know where I'm worried about the person. Julia Garner: I really liked the dress, it really made me feel like the ribbon was working overtime. [There was] lots of breasts, lots of cleavage, lots of strapless. And I always thought about how much film footage is left in Hollywood right now?”

Timothée Chalamet

Wearing Celine Homme FilmMagic

“I had a moment of joy because I felt like someone was listening to me, and you know, I'm just here to do good. Timothée Chalamet wore a shirt, and I complained last year that he wasn't wearing a shirt. And it almost brought a tear to my eye. He had a shirt on!

“It's like there are two people who don't have to wear shirts: Lenny Kravitz and Harry Styles. If you’re not one of those two, put on a shirt.”

Lenny Kravitz

Wear Alexander McQueen FilmMagic

“Lenny can do no wrong. Lenny can get away with anything because [of] his personal style, the way he wears it… and he is Lenny Kravitz. He’s just the epitome of cool.”

Jared Leto

Wearing Givenchy Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP

“His style is very monotonous. Wouldn't it be wonderful to see him appear elegant? Wouldn't that be funny? With a shirt and no gloves – that would be a big change!”

Meryl Streep

Wear Valentino FilmMagic

“She performed as Miranda Priestly and I loved it. And what's really interesting is I don't want to use the word mature, but it wasn't the super young actresses who owned the carpet.”
