The Communist Party of Chile is preparing the traditional hug festival

The 35th edition of this meeting will have a popular, family-oriented character and will be of great importance for the culture and identity of the communist, left and progressive world in our country, the group said in a statement released here.

The event takes up several traditions of the CCP, including the celebration of January 2nd, as it is the day on which the Socialist Workers' Party changed its name to its current name in 1922 and was banned by the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990). ).

During the coup regime, the political organization was subjected to severe repression and many of its members were captured, tortured and murdered, causing its members to go underground.

In addition, during this period it was common for some of them to hug each other when they met and recognized each other, as a sign of joy that they were well.

In 1988, during the turmoil of the dictatorship, the first version was held under the name “Festival of Art, Science and Culture for Democracy in Chile” and since 1992 O'Higgins Park has been adopted as its headquarters.

As part of a wide program of activities, the new edition of the book “Carrizal Bajo: The Final Year” by the late President of the Communist Party of Chile, Guillermo Teillier, is planned.

National and international personalities will take part in a series of forums on Saturday and Sunday in the tents of the Scientific Institute Gladys Marín, Luis Emilio Recabarren, Guillermo Teillier and Alejandro Lipschütz.

The musical part is animated by, among others, La Sonora de Tommy Rey, Inti-Illimani, the Javiera Parra Trio, Ricardo Silva, the Cadillacs Pirata and Pascuala Ilabaca.

As usual, there will be gastronomic offerings from Chilean cuisine and other countries in the region.
