Sinéad O'Connor died of natural causes, the coroner reported today. The Irish singer died on July 26, 2023 at the age of 56 at her residence in south London. “Mrs O'Connor died of natural causes. “Therefore the case is closed,” said the Southwark coroner’s statement.
The day after the death was announced, British police said they did not believe the singer's death was due to anything other than natural causes. The artist had recently moved to London and tweeted earlier this month that she had been away for 23 years. The singer died just a year and a half after her 17-year-old son committed suicide. O'Connor was farewelled in a funeral procession through the streets of Bray, Ireland, a town south of Dublin where she lived for 15 years. The farewell was celebrated in a festive atmosphere: hundreds of his fans appreciated his ability to defend the weakest thanks to his lyrics and his manifestos.
O'Connor was born in Dublin in 1966 and released ten albums between 1987 and 2014. In 2023 he received the Irish Classical Record Award at the RTÉ Music Awards, his country's public radio and television corporation. With a groundbreaking physique and his signature shaved head, his name rose to fame with a song originally composed by American artist Prince, “Nothing Compares 2 U”. But O'Connor had previously released “The Lion and the Cobra”, a debut album that attracted great interest in the music industry due to the emotional complexity of its lyrics and the genius of its author. His career was always marked when he tore up a photo of the Pope on a television program in 1992.
In his memoirs Remembranzas. Scenes from a Complicated Life (published in Spain by Libros del Kultrum in 2022) O'Connor recounted the abuse she suffered as a child at the hands of her mother: “I am the girl who cries in fear on the last day before the summer holidays. Summer. I have to pretend I lost my hockey stick because I know my mom will beat me with it all summer if I bring it home. Although you might prefer carpet poker. “He will force me to undress, he will force me to lie on the floor and spread my legs and arms so that I can hit my genitals with the broom handle.” This childhood was marked by a life full of emotions Ups and downs.
