Stanley Minuty, who was convicted of conspiring to murder Gaetan Gosselin, a good friend and confidant of boss Raynald Desjardins, was just automatically released after serving two-thirds of his sentence.

However, due to his high risk of reoffending, his long history, a observed indifference to the consequences of his actions and “a lack of determination to move away from his marginal lifestyle,” the Parole Board of Canada imposes strict conditions on him. including remaining in a halfway house until the end of his sentence in spring 2027.
Minuty, 40, and other members of a red street gang called Unit 44 formed a commando force that was very active in taking revenge on Sicilians who were the target of a failed coup attempt by Montreal Mafia rebel clans between 2009 and 2011.
In January 2013, they shot Gaetan Gosselin while the 69-year-old was taking out the trash in front of the Desjardins family home on Rue Jean-Tavernier in Montreal.

That same month, they assassinated Vincenzo Scuderi, the right-hand man of Giuseppe De Vito, another rebel mafia leader who, according to police theory, was involved in this failed coup along with Raynald Desjardins.
The suspects were arrested following an extensive investigation by Major Crimes and the SPVM's Organized Crime Unit called Minuterie.
In June 2017, they pleaded guilty to lesser charges of conspiracy for both murders. Minuty, who police said was the gunman in the Gosselin attack, was sentenced to nearly 10 years in prison.
“Clear” violence
In a 10-page decision issued late last week, a probation officer noted that Minuty committed 12 disciplinary infractions while incarcerated in the provincial jail between June 2013 and December 2016.
He accuses him of violent behavior in three of those violations, including a physical altercation with a fellow inmate.
While in prison, Minuty was again involved in a fight with a fellow inmate, against whom he allegedly gave an attack order.
“Due to your active status as a street gang member and your presence in prison, you currently remain the subject of interest by the Ministry of Preventive Security. To determine the condition for assignment, the Commission considered several criteria, including your clear propensity to use violence. Since opening your adult criminal record, you have accumulated violent offenses culminating in the acts that resulted in this sentence. Out of greed and choice, you agreed to shoot a victim at close range in order to honor a paid contract. Although you did not accept criminal responsibility for the loss of life, the victim still died,” the commissioner wrote in his decision.
In addition to being sent to a halfway house, Minuty must also have a single cell phone and a single SIM card, present his incoming and outgoing call logs and unlock his applications upon request and not delete anything.
He must also disclose all of his financial transactions and is prohibited from taking drugs, visiting licensed establishments and communicating with anyone involved in crime or with a criminal record.
