(CNN) – Actor Adan Canto, known for his roles in “The Cleaning Lady” and “Designated Survivor,” has died. He was 42 years old.
Canto died Monday of appendix cancer, according to his representative Jennifer Allen, who said in a statement to CNN that Canto “had a depth of spirit that few truly knew.”
“Those who saw it were forever changed,” Allen’s statement said. “Many of us will miss him very much.”
Canto was born in Mexico and grew up in Texas. He was a talented actor and musician who starred in the Fox series The Cleaning Lady, the third season of which was filming at the time of his death. Allen said Canto has not yet started work on the new season.
Canto was also known for his roles in “Designated Survivor,” “Narcos,” and “Blood and Oil,” among others. His film credits include “X-Men: Days of Future Past” and “Agent Game.”
“We are heartbroken to learn of the death of Adan Canto. “As a wonderful actor and dear friend, we have been honored to have him as part of the Warner Bros. Television and FOX Entertainment families since his U.S. debut on The Following more than a decade ago,” said Warner Bros. Television and FOX Entertainment in a statement statement. Adán's first appearance came in 2009 when he appeared in two episodes of “Estado de Gracia”, a television series broadcast in Mexico. She then appeared in several Mexican television shows and films until she got her break in the US market in 2013 in the first season of Fox's “The Following” alongside Keifer Sutherland.
In 2014, Canto appeared in the Marvel superhero film “X-Men: Days of Future Past” as the mutant Sunspot, who can channel the power of the sun.
An aspiring filmmaker, Canto starred in and directed his first short film in 2014 titled “Before Tomorrow.”
Canto appeared in an episode of the Netflix series “Narcos” and in the first season of the ABC series “Blood & Oil.” He reunited with Sutherland on Designated Survivor and appeared in all three seasons of the series between 2016 and 2020.
In 2021, Canto starred in “Bruised,” the directorial debut of his “X-Men” co-star Halle Berry, and appeared in the CIA thriller “Agent Game” in 2022 before appearing in “The Cleaning Lady” that same year “ played along. Anus.
About his love of acting, Canto told Anthem magazine in 2022 that “it's a fun job” and “a great world to be a part of.”
“I’m definitely grateful for that every day. And it's not easy. That's what I went for and I feel very blessed in that sense. Yes, I just can't stop enjoying it. “Every job is different,” he added.
Canto is survived by his wife, Stephanie Ann Canto, and their two young children, Roman Adler and Eve Josephine.
