Pete Carroll moves from coach to consultant for Seahawks – NBC Sports

And now there are seven.

Pete Carroll will no longer coach the Seahawks. The team announced the move on Wednesday.

“After careful discussions and careful consideration of the best interests of the franchise, we have mutually agreed with Pete Carroll that his role will evolve from coach to remaining with the team as an advisor,” the team said in a statement. “Pete is the winningest coach in Seahawks history, bringing the city its first Super Bowl title and making a tremendous impact on the field and community over the last 14 years.” His experience in leadership and building a championship culture will continue to be an integral part of our organization in the future. Pete will always be a beloved member of the Seahawks family.”

The 72-year-old coached the team since 2010, leading them to two Super Bowls and winning one.

Carroll, who also served as VP of football operations, is under contract through 2024. He is tied with Mike Shanahan and Tom Coughlin for 14th place on the all-time wins list with 170.

With the Seahawks, Carroll posted a 137-89-1 record. He also coached the Jets and the Patriots.

The team unexpectedly made it to the playoffs in 2022. This year it stumbled in the home stretch and failed to qualify.

Carroll is the seventh coach to be fired this cycle.
