David Benioff and Dan Weiss, the writers of the TV series game of ThronesShe made a particularly harsh statement about the cancellation of her film war of stars out of Lucasfilmwith the reasoning: “We are not the droids they are looking for.”

The comment came during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, in which they also confirmed that their film was essentially “The first Jedi“a would have told the story of the founding of the Jedi Order, the creation of lightsabers, and so on.

Lucasfilm had hired Benioff and Weiss to make a series of films in 2018, the first of which should be released in 2022. However, he was deposed in 2019. At the time, the two spoke about conflicts with their other commitments. The break with Lucasfilm therefore seemed to be amicable, so much so that the company's president, Kathleen Kennedy, expressed a desire to see her work on Star Wars again in the future.

However, as with many official stories, this one appears to have been heavily watered down for the public. A few years later, Benioff said that Lucasfilm chose to cancel the film because of never-before-disclosed conflicts: “We had a certain story in mind and they decided they didn't want it.”

Of course, the two know that Lucasfilm has the final say on the matter: “We completely understand. It’s their company and their intellectual property, but we weren’t the droids they were looking for.”

The first Jedi

The latter will not allow the former.

Another not exactly orthodox comment was directed at Rian Johnson, who wrote and directed Star Wars: Episode 8 – The Last Jedi. Essentially, she was annoyed by the film's title, which effectively made it impossible to use The First Jedi because it was too similar, as Weiss explained: “We were very irritated when.” [Rian Johnson] he called his film The Last Jedi. It completely destroyed the natural title of the film we were working on.”
