Selena Gomez will officially star as music legend Linda Ronstadt in an upcoming biopic.
Gomez, 31 – who is taking a social media break after he was caught gossiping about Timothée Chalamet, 28, and Kylie Jenner, 26, at the Golden Globes, released an excerpt from Ronstadt's memoir Simple Dreams earlier this week the year 2013 – Rolling Stone confirmed this new film.
The biopic is currently in pre-production, with Ronstadt's manager John Boylan and James Keach co-producing.
Further casting details and a release date for the biopic have not been announced.
Both Gomez and Rondstadt, 77, are of Mexican descent.

Linda announced in August 2013 that she had Parkinson's disease, but said at the time that she may have had it for some time. The diagnosis forced her to retire from singing.
A doctor confirmed the diagnosis after she went in for a checkup because of tingling in her arm and shoulder.
In late 2019, doctors revised her diagnosis to progressive supranuclear palsy, a degenerative disease often confused with Parkinson's disease due to the similarity of symptoms.
When asked about the future, Linda, who has sold over 100 million albums, was candid.
“Well, the long-term prognosis is probably death,” she said. “Someday something will kill you,
'It takes a long time [for Parkinson’s] to kill you. Something else will probably get you first… I'm not thinking about it. “I'm thinking about what's going to happen today because I just think I don't have a crystal ball.”
Their last performance was at San Antonio's Municipal Auditorium in 2009. Her last album, a collaboration with Cajun singer Ann Savoy that Ronstadt considers one of her best, was released in 2006.
She said: “They say that when you die, your life flashes before your eyes. But that’s also what happens when you retire from singing.”

In 2014, she revealed that her health had stolen her voice, saying, “It wouldn't sound like anything.” I can't get to the note. I cannot produce high quality sound. I can't arrange the pitch. I could aim for one note and hit another. It sounds like you're screaming.'
“I'm still getting by, but it's getting harder and harder,” said the Don't Know Much singer. “It's just really hard to move.” I have a hard time washing my hair, brushing my teeth and getting dressed. It's hard to get up and stand up from a chair. But once I get going, I can carry on a bit.'
“I walk around the neighborhood a little bit, now it's just a few blocks. “I used to walk to the beach, but I don't do that anymore.”
The San Francisco Bay resident added, “My life is very different.” That's all there is to it.'
In 2021, she sold her catalog to Irving Azoff's Iconic Artists Group.
Ronstadt shaped the future of folk rock music in its heyday. The star is best known for his hits “You're No Good” and “When Will I Be Loved.” Notably, in the 1980s he was also engaged to Star Wars creator George Lucas.
Although she never married, Linda adopted daughter Mary in 1990 and son Carlos in 1994 as infants.

The new film role comes after Selena told Instagram Stories on Tuesday night that it was time for a social media break as drama brews surrounding her Golden Globes gossip session with Taylor Swift, 34.
“I’m off social media for a while,” the Grand Prairie, Texas native said. “I focus on what’s really important.”
The Only Murders in the Building star accompanied the statement with a short clip she filmed with her boyfriend Benny Blanco, 35, and two young children.
Selena previously tried to quell speculation that she and Swift gossiped about Kylie and Timothee at the Golden Globes – although a forensic lip reader confirmed this.
Video from their table showed Gomez, Swift and Miles Teller's wife Keleigh Sperry having a very animated discussion – with a somber Selena waxing lyrical to a shocked Taylor and Keleigh before the latter can clearly be heard clarifying : “With Timothee?” as Selena nods.
Lip reader Jeremy Freeman uncovered the trio's conversation exclusively for – claiming Selena was refused a photo with Timothee, 28, and she was afraid of “upsetting” him and Kylie, 26.
Freeman says Selena told Taylor and Keleigh, “He didn't want a photo with me, he said no,” and Keleigh replied, “Timothee?”
Taylor then whispered in Selena's ear, with the Only Murders In The Building actress reportedly saying: “I tried, I couldn't, it'll upset her.”
Now Selena has claimed she was actually gossiping about “two friends who met” – despite Keleigh clearly mentioning Timothee's name.
