Energy Minister of the new Cabinet calls for resignation in Guatemala

“The minister has made the position available to them so that the duo can decide what is most convenient for the department,” the Movimiento Semilla party said, without giving the reasons for the decision.

During the introduction of the new CEO, Vice President-elect Karin Herrera highlighted Guardado's professional education and work experience, as well as his master's degree in business administration with a focus on sustainable development.

She added a postgraduate course in specialization in human rights, which she led as director of the Association of Renewable Energy Generators (AGER), and described her work on innovation as fundamental in the country's development model.

Analysts noted the appointment of two ministers who are members of the Coordinating Committee of the Agricultural, Commercial, Industrial and Financial Associations (Cacif), including Guardado.

This despite the fact that Semilla MPs and parliamentary candidates repeated in their speech during the election campaign a future without the private company in question.

Experts say some sections of the electorate may feel betrayed because they wanted Cacif to be expelled from government.

Responding to this question, Arévalo said that this slogan was never part of his election campaign and “we are committed to building a unity cabinet to govern the country.”

“The members of the cabinet do not represent an industry or party, it is a cabinet of people who are capable of taking on their tasks,” said the politician.

The appointment of the team was based on an analysis of CVs and the experience and training of each professional was taken into account, he described.

The current MP also stressed that this Cabinet has a single and primary mission, namely to work tirelessly to improve the lives of all Guatemalans.

The presidential duo will take office next Sunday the 14th and a day later the mayors and council heads of this Central American territory will take office.
