In August 2021 a majestic one Forest fire in Caldor forced hundreds of residents in the Lake Tahoe region to do so California evacuate. Many people have lost their homes, others have lost family members.
Ricardo Rodríguez He was camping with his friends with his 3 year old dog named Soot. The pit bull mix ran away out of fear and was never found again. Ricardo searched for him for several hours and called all local animal shelters to report his faithful friend missing.
In the storm
Several months have passed. Winter is here and with it big snowstorms in the Sierra Nevada mountains. In mid-December of that year, a skier near Twin Peaks (west of South Lake Tahoe) noticed one Dog curled up in the snownear a tree.

After reporting its presence on Facebook and some local animal rights organizations that work to find and rescue lost animals, the post caught the attention of Wendy Jones from Tahoe Paws and TLC Furry Friends. She was in the middle of another rescue operation, but wrote two volunteers to investigate the case. Leona Allen and Elsa Gaule rushed to the dog's aid despite the freezing temperatures and the late hour.
Help is coming!
The volunteers, equipped with snowshoes, rescue equipment and a sled, tracked down the animal, but were unable to do so motionless in the snow. It seemed like it was too late, but the two girls were thrilled when the dog opened his eyes and raised his head!
As soon as they managed to get him onto the sled, they set off on the arduous descent through deep snow and poor light with the almost hypothermic dog.

When the women finally arrived at the vet after a two-hour drive, it turned out that the four-legged animal had a microchip: its owner could therefore be identified!
Ricardo couldn't believe Russ was still alive! What a touching story!
