“28 Years Later” comes from Danny Boyle and Alex Garland – The Verge

Filmmakers Alex Garland and Danny Boyle – the writer/director duo who brought us 28 Days Later in 2002 – have been talking about making a third film in the apocalyptic zombie franchise for years. But it seems like the couple is finally getting the chance to make that dream a reality while potentially launching an entirely new film series.

According to , Garland and Boyle are reuniting for 28 Years Later, a new film set in a (presumably) destroyed world ravaged by a strange virus that turns people into angry, fast-running zombie-like creatures. As with “28 Days Later” – starring Cillian Murphy, Naomie Harris, Brendan Gleeson and Christopher Eccleston – Boyle will direct the new film while Garland writes.

Garland and Boyle only served as executive producers on director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo's 2007 film 28 Weeks Later, which picked up the story of the first film and explored how the rage contagion ultimately spread beyond Britain's borders. But with “28 Years Later,” which doesn't yet have a production start date, cast or distribution studio, the duo hopes to launch a new trilogy of films that are expected to cost around $75 million to produce.
