Corey Perry has received approval to reach an agreement with an NHL team

Corey Perry has been without a club since November 28th as the Chicago Blackhawks terminated his contract after he was involved in an incident during an event attended by team sponsors and employees. Corey Perry could return to the National Hockey League (NHL).

At least that's what Sportsnet informant Elliotte Friedman revealed on Wednesday. After meeting with commissioner Gary Bettman on Tuesday, the former Montreal Canadiens would have received approval to reach an agreement with any NHL team.

Following the mishap, Perry released a statement and apologized on social media.

“I will do whatever it takes to make sure something like this never happens again,” he said. I hope to regain the trust and respect of everyone who once believed in me during my career. I’m really sorry again.”

He also said he had begun working with mental health and substance abuse experts to discuss his “alcohol issues.”
