A new blow has been dealt to the current Peruvian football transfer market. Through its social networks, the Universitario de Deportes announced Jairo Concha as reinforcement for the 2024 season, the year in which the Merengues celebrate their 100th anniversary.
The 24-year-old midfielder joins the current national champions after defending Alianza Lima, the student team's eternal rival, for three seasons. During his stay with the Blue-Whites, Concha won two League 1 titles (2021 and 2022) and finished second in 2023 after losing to the “U” in the final.
Not wanting to waste any time, Jairo completed his first training session as a first-class player in Campo Mar yesterday. The midfielder was able to compete with the rest of the team and even managed to score a goal in training.
The arrival of the deceased was celebrated by one of the leaders of the Universitario, Edison Flores, who announced that he wanted to play with him in the current premier league of Peruvian football.
“I have always said that Jairo is a player I would like to have in the 'U'; He is a player who always goes forward, a player who always loves them. It is a big challenge to get from the alliance to the university. “I think he can be prepared for what’s coming,” Orejas said of his new teammate.
Likewise, Fabián Bustos is convinced that the new signing of the “U” will be of great benefit in this campaign, in which the student team will face the Liga 1 2024 and the group stage of the Copa Libertadores.
“The leadership made a big effort to get Jairo. He will certainly come to compete and support the team. Yes, I know him, I've seen him play. “He had a great year,” said the Argentine strategist.
Following the departure of Piero Quispe to Pumas, Jairo will fight for the title in this position, in search of the two-time national championship and qualification for the round of 16 of the South American competition.
This will be the third club that Concha has defended at the professional level. The first team he played for in the first division was Universidad San Martín and then Alianza Lima. In addition, he had the opportunity to play two friendly matches with the Peruvian team.
Universitario de Deportes continues to prepare to arrive in optimal conditions for the start of Liga 1. Two more games are confirmed for the Creams, who are currently playing against Universidad César Vallejo at Poeta Night.
The first game will take place on Sunday, January 14th in Florida against Atlético Nacional, while the second is scheduled for Saturday, January 20th against Coquimbo Unidos at the Estadio Monumental por la Noche Crema.
It is recalled that the players led by Fabián Bustos will begin the Apertura tournament at the Mansiche Stadium against Carlos Mannucci. The classic against Alianza Lima will take place on the third day at the National Stadium.
