Trump ordered the New York Times to pay nearly $400,000 in legal fees

Former US President Donald Trump was ordered on Friday, January 12, to pay $392,638 in legal fees to The New York Times and daily newspaper journalists after his lawsuits against them were dismissed.

Donald Trump filed a complaint against the journalists in September 2021, accusing three of his journalists of a “devious conspiracy” to obtain his tax records. They published a study in 2018 that won the prestigious Pulitzer Prize. In May 2023, a judge on the Commercial Division of the New York State Supreme Court dismissed the real estate mogul's case and ordered him to pay costs. In a new ruling Friday, that judge found the New York Times' estimated legal fees “reasonable” and ordered Donald Trump to reimburse them in full.

The investigation revealed how the former promoter, who claims to have made it on his own, built his fortune. She assured that Donald Trump actually received the current equivalent of $413 million from his father over several years, some of which was transferred via a shell company in order to avoid the “tax”.
