Mid-century masterpiece! The beautiful 1958 Palm Springs mansion that has never been for sale is listed for $8.75 million — and the furniture is for sale, too

A stunning 1950s mansion in Palm Springs has hit the market for the first time in its entire existence for $8.85 million, and the furniture is on offer too.

The 3,000 square meter mansion was built in 1958 and is now known as Bougain Villa – after the bougainvillea flowers that surround it.

Located in the Coachella Valley and nestled among the San Jacinto Mountains, the home was designed by iconic mid-century modern architect Hugh Kaptur.

The three-bedroom mansion was designed for William Burgess, who was chairman of an electronics company in Los Angeles.

It sits on a sprawling 1.3-acre lot in a gated community in the California desert.

When designing the house, Kaptur took full advantage of the rocky landscape. “The mountain and house are one unit, with stones used as part of the actual structure,” Sean Stanfield of Pacific Sotheby's International Realty told the New York Post.

The listing is by Stanfield and his agency in conjunction with Chorpenning of Desert Sotheby's International Realty.

“The property is a unique work of art that simply could not be replicated today,” Stanfield said.
