Third attack within 48 hours against Houthi positions in Yemen (German)

A new bomb attack hit a military base of the Houthi rebels in Yemen this Saturday (01/13/2024), particularly in the port city of Al Hodeida, after the United States bombed insurgent positions for the second day in a row in response to their attacks in the Red sea, witnesses reported.

The suspected U.S. bombing came after insurgents fired a missile into the southern Red Sea, where rebels have carried out dozens of attacks on merchant ships since mid-November, causing severe disruption to maritime traffic. “The site from which a Houthi rocket was fired on the outskirts of Al Hodeida was hit,” a military source linked to the rebels said.

So far, neither the Houthis nor the US have commented on the matter, and the extent of this attack on Al Hodeida, one of the insurgents' main drone and missile launch bases, is unknown. This very port city, as well as a base near the airport in the capital Sanaa, were the targets of an earlier US bombing that took place this morning.

“The Americans will bear the consequences”

According to the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), this military action was carried out on January 13 at 3:45 a.m. local time (00:45 GMT) from the US Navy destroyer USS Carney (DDG 64) and used Tomahawk land attack missiles. . ). According to Washington, it was “a follow-up operation against a specific military target” related to Friday's US and British bombings, aimed at impairing the Houthis' ability to attack ships.

“There were no material or human losses after the attack,” Nasreddin Amer, the Houthis’ deputy communications director, told Al Jazeera, referring to the operation early Saturday. “All Americans will suffer the consequences of this attack.” The answer will not be long in coming,” he added.

The first large-scale military operation by the United States and the United Kingdom targeted 28 insurgent enclaves, according to CENTCOM, and caused five Houthi deaths, according to the rebels themselves. Following these attacks, the Houthis organized a major demonstration against both countries on Friday and declared an “open war” against them.
